Dr. Niels van Poecke, PhD is Senior Researcher at the department of Medical Oncology, Amsterdam UMC. He holds degrees in sociology (MA), philosophy (MA) and cultural sociology (PhD) and has expertise in both theoretical and qualitative empirical research in the fields of cultural sociology and art theory. He co-develops the evolving research line 'Contingency, Culture & Oncology' at the department of Medical Oncology, Amsterdam UMC, currently comprising multiple projects investigating the role of the participatory arts in supportive care for people living-with (advanced) cancer.
